Un-metabolized trauma is a psycho-physical response to overwhelm that can disrupt our health and relationships, and obscure recognition of our spiritual identity. Through somatic education, attuned interaction, restorative touch, and instinctual resonance, attention can be sufficiently liberated from past experience to realize awareness amidst phenomena. As pathways of trauma are somatically repatterned, our nervous systems can experience greater fluidity, and our relationships to ourselves and each other can heal.
Deborah Boyar, Ph.D., S.E.P., is a senior teacher of Waking Down in Mutuality and a somatic therapist. She helps people awaken as the seamless expanse of Being, cultivate somatic awareness, and foster self-regulation. Her particular expertise lies in resolving traumatic stress patterns, and mining the richness of trauma to fuel human evolution. She co-founded a Waking Down school to train mentors and teachers, assists at Somatic Experiencing courses, and recently established a trauma resolution clinic at COTS, an Integral homeless shelter in northern California. Through Trauma Vidya and Lotus Circle International, Deborah also volunteers in India with women's empowerment groups and tsunami survivors. A devotee of Adi Da for several years, she currently studies Integral theory and enjoys Integral life practice. Her longstanding explorations of spirituality, neuroscience, psychotherapy, and trauma continue with Ken Wilber, Daniel Siegel, and Peter Levine, among others.
Deborah is skilled at cocreating a resonant field of listening that integrates soma and spirit. Her deep commitment to cherish and trust each person’s unique nature is the fruit of her ongoing journey through the portal of trauma to wholeness.
